Cameron Maldonado was born in 2000 in Southern California. Their work addresses the tension between performance and identity, with a focus on the intersection of mental illness and sexuality, through multimedia sculpture and photography. Their work investigates a subject’s movement between two and three dimensionality within a fabricated environment. Elements of camp, absurdity, and constructed reality color the worlds depicted in their work. The constructed worlds reflect the thematic and aesthetic influence queer horror media, history and visual language Maldonado incorporates into their work. They received their BFA in Photography from Parsons School of Design in 2023.
